Hel, Goddess of the underworld.

Hel är gudinnan som härskar över dödsriket, en plats som enligt Snorri inte verkar så behaglig, men om man studerar alla källor om idén om ett efterliv framträder en annan bild.

De som dör en “vanlig” död sägs hamna i Helheim, där de fortsätter att leva mer eller mindre som i Midgård. Min avbildning av Hel är av liv och död, vilket är anledningen till att jag har avbildat henne hållande ett äpple i sin vänstra hand; hennes fokus verkar också vara på detta äpple.

Utan död finns inget liv. Hennes tron är konstruerad av dödskallar och ormar som slingrar sig runt henne, med ormen som en symbol för jorden och livet efter döden. Jag har hämtat inspiration till hennes frisyr från avbildningar av kvinnor i mytologin som är förknippade med ormar och underjorden. Att offra mjölk till Hel är ett mycket bra alternativ, då vi har flera exempel från forntiden där mjölk offrades till ormar.

Detta magnifika ritualföremål är handgjort i Sverige, gjutet i akrylresin och målat i olika lager för att efterlikna åldrad brons. Variation i färg kan förekomma eftersom de är alla handmålade. Statyerna är vattentäta och giftfria, så du kan säkert hälla din mjöd på statyn.

Hel is the goddess who rules over the realm of the dead, a place that doesn’t seem so pleasant according to Snorri, but if you study all sources regarding the idea of an afterlife, a different image emerges.

Those who die a “regular” death are said to end up in Helheim, where they continue to live more or less like in Midgard. My portrayal of Hel is of life and death, which is why I have depicted her holding an apple in her left hand; her focus also seems to be on this apple.

Without death, there is no life. Her throne is constructed from the skulls of the dead and snakes that coil around her, with the serpent being a symbol for the earth and life after death. I have drawn inspiration for her hairstyle from depictions of women in mythology associated with serpents and the underworld.Sacrificing milk to Hel is a very good alternative, as we have several examples from ancient times where milk was offered to serpents.

This magnificent ritual item is handmade in Sweden casted with acrylic resin and painted in different layers to mimic aged bronze. Variation in  color may occur because they are all hand painted.
the statues are waterproof and non toxic so you can safely polish your mead on the statue.
